Jan. 12, 2026 - After 18 Months of Working Out, Here's What I've Learned.

Updated: Jan 12

Coach Kath-Lynn at the Gym.

  1. The first 3-5 months just #@%$ing suck royally! I had to grit my teeth and just keep going. I absolutely did not feel stronger, more energetic nor lost any weight. If anything I felt exhausted, ridiculous and like I didn't fit in.

  2. Consistency beats intensity every single time. Sure, most days I hit it hard and make my workout worth something but, the days I truly didn't feel like it, I worked out anyway, even if it wasn't my best workout.

  3. In the first few months, I frequently got injured, sick or the soreness was extreme. I still honored my "workout hour" by stretching, walking or even just finding workout videos to tag for a rainy day.

  4. Strength training is where the real magic happens. Cardio will strengthen your heart and build endurance but, strength training is what physically changes your body. Consistent strength training will build muscle, improve your metabolism and create the happy chemicals that make you feel more energized.

  5. Finally, after 6 months of consistent workouts (3-4 times a week) I began feeling stronger, more energized, proud of myself and my brain started working faster, clearer and felt happier.

  6. Exercise is like free medicine both for our bodies and our minds. Consistent strong workouts prevent and can even mend metabolic syndrome (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes etc).

  7. I will never be a Gym Rat. I do not feel "off" on the days I don't work out. I workout the same way I do laundry and brush my teeth, purely because my good health is absolutely worth it!

What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear why you work out and what strategy works best for you?

I can’t agree more! Small habits are so critical. Sometimes when I’m to intense I can’t be consistent. I believe in you.
